Jeff Nugent - Serial Entrepreneur

Jeff Nugent is a serial entrepreneur. From running the tuck shop in high school to organizing events and running a multi-million student housing company in university Jeff seems to have a knack for creating businesses and making money.

Professionally Jeff has over 27 years of experience in the staffing, contingent workforce management and independent contractor compliance & payrolling industry. As part of a merger/acquisition Jeff joined People 2.0 in 2018 as a founder & their Chief Strategy & Global Business Development Officer. Jeff was responsible for developing & driving the company’s expansion globally and building out People 2.0’s industry leading IC compliance, employer of record, and contractor payrolling solutions that services staffing/recruiting, MSP/VMS Program & Online recruitment platform customers. Prior to joining People 2.0, Jeff founded Contingent Workforce Solutions (CWS) a leading independent compliance and payrolling firm. Jeff was responsible for leading CWS in becoming one of North America’s fastest growing companies. Over his 36-month tenure at People 2.0, Jeff was part of the team that lead the acquisition of a capital partner and an additional 8 global employer of record and contractor payrolling companies. Under his leadership he grew the company from $450M USD to $1.7B USD and ability to service clients in over 47 countries. Capping things off with a successful exit of the original People 2.0 shareholders to TPG (The Texas pension fund’s private equity arm).

With his extensive experience, a passion for the workforce management industry, Jeff has worked with countless staffing and enterprise customers in successfully implementing best in class programs and technologies that take a strategically pragmatic approach to managing their contract workers. As an expert in contract worker classification and risk mitigation strategies, Jeff has helped clients reduce liability from worker misclassification and Employment standards law violations, health & safety and worker compensation risk, all while keeping an eye on driving efficiency & cost savings. Jeff monitors contract workforce risk issues globally, serves on government relations committee for Canada’s National Staffing Association (ACSESS) and has advised federal, provincial and state governments on issues concerning changes in the workforce and the legislation affecting contract workers.

Jeff is a frequent speaker on contract talent management issues, a published author, and the managing editor of Contingent Workforce Strategies our industry’s largest non-commercial LinkedIn discussion group. As an entrepreneur and industry expert Jeff and his companies have won many accolades over the past decades such as Profit Magazine’s fastest growing company, E&Y regional entrepreneur of the year and Staffing Industry Analysts top 100 most influential people.

Jeff holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and resides in Waterloo, Ontario Canada. When not on a plane, Jeff is an avid skier and enjoys spending time with his family at the cottage.
